Mission Statement:
Si Tanka University is an institution of higher education that is chartered by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. Our mission is to provide an education that leads to certificates, and associate and baccalaureate degrees, which fosters intellectual, social and cultural development for a diverse multi-cultural student population, some of whom may have unique educational needs. We provide a student-centered nurturing environment that challenges and supports students in the achievement of their personal and academic potential. To accomplish this we:
- Provide individualized, active approaches to learning integrated in all aspects of the University.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity within the University community to enrich learning.
- Deliver respectful, ethical, professional service that demonstrates fair and equal treatment of all persons.
- Uphold strong academic standards.
- Support on-going professonal development of faculty with emphasis on diversity and teaching excellence.
- Provide training and development for all members of the University family in areas related to board governance, management and job skills.
- Use the assessment process for continuous improvement of student learning and organizational effectiveness.
- Support efforts to preserve the Native American Cultures.
- Build community and partnerships within the University and with our stakeholders.
- Use particpative and inclusive approaches in all aspects of the University.
- Provide current technology that supports student academic and career goals.
- Cultivate a safe and healthy campus where students can learn and grow.
- Provide opportunities for students to particpate in professional, social, recreational, and athletic activities consistent with the educational goals and values of the University.
- Provide the necessary resources to fulfill the mission of the University.
